School of Nursing Birnin Kudu

The School of Nursing Birnin Kudu was established in May 1996 in Birnin Kudu town, which is 47 km from the state headquarters (Dutse) in Jigawa state and along Kano—Maiduguri Road.

The school is one of the best nursing schools located in Jigawa state and has graduated 19 sets of nurses while the midwifery program has graduated about 4 sets of students since its inception in 2010.

The School of Nursing Birnin Kudu aims to train nurses who will play an expanded role in rendering services within and outside the hospital as well as coping with the dynamic nature of the community.

The school also tends to provide students with sound knowledge that is aimed at developing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills in the provision of quality and holistic patient care.

The School of Nursing Birnin Kudu has well-equipped laboratories for practical use, an equipped library for carrying outresearch activities and a curriculum is practical oriented.

Admission Requirements of School of Nursing Birnin Kudu

  1. Academic qualification: You must have a minimum of five credits in your WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB In not more than two sittings in the following subjects:- English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics 
  2. Meet JAMB Requirement: You must choose Jigawa State College of Nursing Sciences, Birnin Kudu in your JAMB. You must also obtain a minimum score of 150 in your JAMB exam.
  3. Upload SSCE Result: You must upload your SSCE results on the JAMB Portal. 
  4. Pass Entrance Exam: You must write and pass the entrance exam before being offered admission into the nursing school.

Nursing program at the School of Nursing Birnin Kudu

School of Nursing Birnin Kudu offers the following nursing program. 

General Nursing Education 

The General Nursing Education Program involves six -semesters (3 years ) of study. 

The courses in the first year of the programme are designated in four digits (representing level, credit load, and semester for the last two digits respectively) with the prefix BGN (Basic General Nursing). The courses in the second and third years of study are designated as that of the first year with the same prefix (BGN).

The School of Nursing Birnin Kudu has a yearly calendar (scatter graph) and operates the semester system (2 semesters per year) for a total period of three years, making six semesters for the three years.

Consolidated eight (8) weeks clinical posting after each semester examination from 1st year to 2nd year and specialization posting at 3rd year 1st semester and rural clinical experience at 3rd-year 2nd semester respectively.

Basic Midwifery Program 

The Basic Midwifery Program is a six-semester program (3 years) of Study.

The courses in the first year of the program are designated in four digits (representing level, credit load, and semester for the last two digits respectively) with the prefix BMP (Basic Midwifery Program). 

The courses in the second and third years of study are designated as those of the first year with the same prefix (BMP). 

Besides the normal classroom instructions, students will be posted to hospitals and communities for hospital and community-based clinical practices and training with the aim of according students with the opportunity of putting into practice and reinforcing the knowledge and skills learnt in the classroom.

Post Basic Nursing Program

The Post Basic Nursing Program is a four-semester (18 months) of study.

The courses in the first year of the program are designed in four digits (representing level, credit load and semester for the last two digits respectively) with the prefix of PBGN (Post Basic General Nursing). The courses in the second and third years of study are designed as that of the first year with the same prefix (PBGN).

How to apply for admission into the School of Nursing Birnin Kudu

  2. Register: Click on Create Profile to register as a new applicant. 
  3. Fill out the Registration form: Fill out the registration form correctly by providing your JAMB Registration Number, Phone number, email address, and NIN.
  4. Make Payment: You are to pay the sum of N2,000 for Post UTME registration fee ( bank charges excluded)
  5. Fill application form: after making payment, the Post UTME form will be made available for you, you are to fill it out correctly. 
  6. Submit: proofread your application to make sure they are correct and submit. 
  7. Print Slip: Print the slip after submission and keep it for future reference

You can only apply to study at the School of Nursing Birnin Kudu if you select the institution as your first choice of study.
