The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) School of Nursing was officially opened on May 12, 1973, by Mrs. Victoria Gowon.
The school was established primarily with the aim of educating students both in theory and practice with the view of educating and producing well-equipped nurses of international standards that can meet the demands of the present and future.
The nursing school has produced a lot of nursing practitioners, the first set of twenty-two (22) students were admitted in July 1973 and the second set of 23 were admitted in 1974.
The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) School of Nursing’s role is to prepare the next generation of Nurses nurses, advance the body of nursing, and advance the science and practice of psychology to prepare counselors and educators who help people to live fully and healthy.

Perioperative Nursing and Management is an educational program designed to equip students with the complexity of knowledge and skills required to effectively care for patients and recipients of perioperative healthcare.
The program also aims to equip nursing students with the knowledge and skills to be able to assess the Surgical patient to determine his/her emotional needs and also provide physical and emotional support to the patient and his family during perioperative conditions.
